Berserk (1997) – A Masterpiece of Dark Fantasy

Set in a grim, medieval-inspired world, Berserk follows the story of Guts, a lone mercenary who joins the "Band of the Hawk," a formidable mercenary group led by the charismatic and ambitious Griffith.

The 1997 series focuses on the Golden Age Arc. While it begins as a gritty military drama about war, brotherhood, and political intrigue, it slowly descends into a supernatural nightmare. It is a story about ambition, the cost of power, and the struggle of a single man against an inescapable, cruel destiny.

1. Guts – The Black Swordsman

Guts is the definition of a "struggler." Born from a corpse and raised on the battlefield, he carries a massive blade (the Dragon Slayer) that is more a slab of iron than a sword. He is a man of incredible physical strength and iron will, surviving horrors that would break anyone else.

2. Griffith – The White Hawk

The leader of the Band of the Hawk. Griffith is beautiful, brilliant, and terrifyingly ambitious. His goal is to have his own kingdom, and he is willing to sacrifice anything—or anyone—to achieve it. The complex relationship between Guts and Griffith is the emotional core of the series.
